Clark County School Registration…Are You Ready?

las vegas henderson nevada school photoPosted below are a few important posts on the Clark County School District home page that may be of importance to you if you live in Henderson, Las Vegas, or North Las Vegas:

The “How to Enroll” brochure, available in both English and Spanish, offers useful information on enrolling in CCSD schools. If you have questions, please contact your child’s school or call the CCSD administrative offices at 799-5000. The district’s website at www.ccsd.net also contains a wealth of information.

The 12th Annual Community Back To School Health/Educational Fair will be held Sat., Aug. 14 from 9-1 at the CSN Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne in N. Las Vegas. It will feature immunizations, dental checks, youth physicals and much more including live entertainment and face painting.

My Son’s First Triathlon – Las Vegas (Lake Mead)

A few weeks ago my 15-year old son asked us if we would pay for his registration fee to enter a local triathlon he found on the internet. Of course we said yes (and my husband who used to compete 20 years ago was THRILLED!)

Today he competed in his first triathlon hosted by the Las Vegas Tri Club, which had over 100 athletes. The swim was 500 yards, bike was 12 miles and the run was 3.1 miles.

He came out of the water in the middle of the pack and held his own to the end. He crossed the finish line (the only goal for the day) with a big smile, ripped his shirt off and ran back into the lake to cool off from the Las Vegas heat.

Looks like we will be attending more triathlons in our near future – I think he’s hooked. And, I think the old man may get back into them.

Beat the Vegas Heat – - – Go to Lunch at Mt. Charleston

When Vegas gets hot, the Hillier’s head to Mt. Charleston – the temperature can be up to 20 degrees cooler!

We live in the northwest so Mt. Charleston is about 30-45 minutes (depending on traffic and the weight of your foot).

At the top you will find a great restaurant to stop and sit outside to enjoy your lunch.

New Mexican Restaurant in Centennial Hills – Leticia’s Mexican Cocina (89143)

A new Mexican restaurant opened several months ago in the northwest area of Las Vegas, specifically in the Village of Centennial Hills (89143).

They have outdoor seating, which each table has an umbrella for the days the Las Vegas sun it out and you want to avoid it.

They seat you with chips and salsa, one blackened tomato salsa, tomatillo-avocado salsa and bean dip. YUM! The servings are quite large (see below) and we never leave hungry.

On Tuesday’s they have karaoke night and if you are not into it, don’t worry – - – there are many patrons who are so entertainment is provided.

One of our favorite cake places in Las Vegas – Nothing Bundt Cakes

One our favorite place for a few indulgences is Nothing But Cakes located on Sahara. We love to buy the mini cakes in different flavors (each family member has their own). My husband loves the Red Velvet and the kids love the chocolate which has chocolate chips baked into it. They offer many flavors and their icing is AMAZING! (Can I just get a bucket of icing please!?)
